‘A great deal of this will be free of any charge due to solar gain. Neither our Government nor Brussels have yet taxed sunlight . . but don’t hold your breath! Many years ago there used to be a tax relating to glass in buildings’.

As the door from your home will often be open to the conservatory, the existing heating in your home will spread out into the conservatory. However it will also be the case that the warmer atmosphere created naturally in the conservatory, flows back into the house and that won’t cost you a penny.

If your existing boiler has sufficient capacity, it may well be advantageous to extend a radiator to give background warmth. Ideally this should be in addition to an electric convector heating, to give you optimum control in all heating requirement conditions.

The distinct advantage with an independent thermostatically controlled convector heater is it will be not dependant on your house thermostat, which may well be giving incorrect signals – – – ON BITTERLY COLD NIGHTS WHEN YOUR INDOOR SYSTEM MAY NOT BE OPERATING BETWEEN SAY, MIDNIGHT AND SIX IN THE MORNING, THE CONSERVATORY MAY WELL REQUIRE GENTLE HEATING TO PROTECT PLANTS AND SOFT FURNISHINGS. HOWEVER, WHEN THERE IS THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF SUNSHINE ON COLD DAYS THE TEMPERATURE CAN EASILY CLIMB TO A COMFORTABLE MEDITERRANEAN ATMOSPHERE, WHILST THE INDOOR RADIATORS MAY NEED TO BE WORKING AT FULL BLAST.

It is increasingly popular to introduce a WOOD BURNING STOVE or an attractive modern gas fir with simulated log effect, ideally be set in and end elevation of either stone or brick work. Should this be your choice, then much care must be taken to correctly introduce appropriate ventilation of any fumes and correcting designed chimneys . . we would be pleased to advise you appropriately. * Please refer to my separate page regarding

WOOD BURNING FIRES.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT DESPITE UNECESSARY CONCERNS LIKE “WILL MY CONSERVATORY BE TOO HOT AND UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE SUMMER” OR “WILL MY CONSERVATORY BE TOO COLD TO USE AS A PRINCIPAL ROOM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR”. Many people particularly enjoy their GLAZED SUN ROOMS in the Winter …………… you can only glean accurate, informed and reliable guidance from those who already have well designed conservatory sun rooms. However, they should be provided by a well established company, have good ventilation and appropriate heating and often quality solar blinds. It is clear that the principle reason they become the most popular room in the home, is because they offer a light, bright, airy warm and cheerful area to enjoy the holiday or party atmosphere.

A room which your guests or family will immediately be comfortable to head for whether invited or not. I have heard some wonderfully complimentary statements made by guests visiting our customers whatever the time of year.
