Replacement Roof
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The Architectural Aluminium Conservatory was constructed by ourselves some 15 years ago.
Whilst it is structurally sound in every respect, the owners desired to have a suspended plastered ceiling added within the glass roof, to be fitted by others.
Whilst this may seem like a straightforward exercise, there are many problems which have arisen. Those responsible were not familiar with the complexities of fully glazed structures.
Leaks and dampness resulted and David Fenning’s Conservatories were instructed to remove this ceiling and the complete roof.
This was replaced by the superb Leka Roof System which has GRP rafters and no timber which may ultimately rot.
100 mm Celotex was introduced to achieve good insulation specification and the very high performance Tapco Tiles superbly completed the overall replacement roof.
The internal vaulted ceiling was lined with high performance insulating Marmox, rather than plasterboard, all combined to achieve a very attractive tiled sun room, with the highest overall insulation values, so that this redesigned extension could be comfortably used throughout the year.
A utility area beside the main conservatory had degraded polycarbonate roof panels. Whilst maintaining the original roof structure, these were replaced with High Specification Leather Grain Thermal Panels.
All concerned were very pleased with the overall project and favourable comments were made by the Building Regulation’s Inspector.
In conclusion, the transformation of a conventional glazed conservatory to a tiled extension with vaulted ceiling, was carried out very much more economically than a complete demolition to construct an extension.
